The sunrise periods for two adult-themed generic top-level-domains (gTLDs) have officially opened for trademark owners.
As of yesterday (March 2), .porn and .adult are available to trademark owners whose rights are registered in the Trademark Clearinghouse (TMCH).
The domains are operated by ICM Registry, which is already the operator for the .xxx gTLD, and will be available for registration for the next 29 days.
Stuart Lawley, chairman and chief executive of ICM Registry, said: “Porn is one of the most searched for terms on the internet. The launch of .porn and .adult brings exciting opportunities for webmasters and brand creators.”
After the sunrise periods have closed, the next phase of the launches will be sunrise B periods for previous .xxx applicants.
Open from April 6 to 30, those periods will give trademark owners that participated in the .xxx programme a priority option to reserve a .porn and .adult domain before they become generally available.
The general availability periods for .porn and .adult will open on June 4.
