ICANN has hired Göran Marby as its new president and chief executive.
Marby’s new role will be effective from May this year, the organisation said in a statement on Monday, February 8.
Marby (pictured left), a Swedish national, who is currently director-general of the Swedish Post and Telecom Authority, has experience in the internet and technology sectors.
Marby said: “I am very excited to be joining ICANN and joining at the start of a new era for the organisation and the community and while I know there is much for me to learn, I am eager to work with ICANN's multi stakeholder community to continue all the good work that ICANN has been doing.”
Stephen Crocker, chair of ICANN’s board of directors, added: “I'm delighted to announce Göran as the new head of ICANN.”
Current president Fadi Chehadé finishes his role in March this year.
