ICANN names new chief executive

ICANN has hired Göran Marby as its new president and chief executive.

Marby’s new role will be effective from May this year, the organisation said in a statement on Monday, February 8. 

marby-727x969-08feb16-en.jpgMarby (pictured left), a Swedish national, who is currently director-general of the Swedish Post and Telecom Authority, has experience in the internet and technology sectors.

Marby said: “I am very excited to be joining ICANN and joining at the start of a new era for the organisation and the community and while I know there is much for me to learn, I am eager to work with ICANN's multi stakeholder community to continue all the good work that ICANN has been doing.”

Stephen Crocker, chair of ICANN’s board of directors, added: “I'm delighted to announce Göran as the new head of ICANN.”

Current president Fadi Chehadé finishes his role in March this year.
