Music publisher Sony/ATV has hired US-based copyright enforcement company Rightscorp as its new partner to help it monitor use of its intellectual property online.
Sony has appointed the Los Angeles-based company to act as its “agent” and to look out for unauthorised downloads and uploads by individuals on US networks.
Rightscorp’s role is to collect data on alleged infringements, send notices to internet service providers, and negotiate and collect settlements on Sony’s behalf.
The deal, agreed on September 29, is expected to last one year.
